Early Maori Enterprise

This week for inquiry, we have started our term focus about Economics and Enterprise. For today's and yesterdays challenge, we learnt about early Maori enterprise throughout New Zealand, and transferred that information over to our devices in only 5 sentences. Once we had our five sentences, our challenge was to convert the sentences to have only 10 syllables per sentence. It was quite the challenge, although I along with my peers Alex, Aung Naing, Te Pounamu and Nevaeh managed to get the job done.

Original 5 Sentences
Early Maori Enterprise started with tribes trading items all over New Zealand. Trades included a variety of foods, baskets and jewellery. Later on British travellers came to New Zealand asking for food, and other items. This turned into trades where the Maori people sold their valuable land and foods for unfair returns. This resulted in the Maori people selling too much of their land and belongings, leaving them with little to nothing.

10 Syllable Per Sentence 5 Sentences
Maori enterprise started with trading. They traded items like food and clothing. Soon British travellers came wanting food. The British also wanted to buy land. Then Maori sold too much, they lost their land.

Water filters

This week and last week for inquiry LS2 was learning about water filters and how to make them, we needed to find out what water filters need to work and how we could put the filters together.  All of the groups used plastic bottles, sand, rocks and charcoal to try and dilute dirty water. Although none of the groups completely filtered the water, some of them managed to get lighter coloured water.

Stardome trip

Yesterday night, Learning Space 2 were given the opportunity to visit Stardome where we could learn about stars, planets, and constellations. We went in a bus, and when we arrived we got to look around the building. First we entered the dome where we met our show presenter Tobias. While in the dome, we got a proper look at how constellations work, and we got to learn about the different opinions on what the constellations make up. We got to see close up what Jupiter and Saturn really look like, and we found out that sometimes the rings of Saturn seem to have disappeared, although it is only the angle of which the rings are facing us. Some facts that we learnt were that Jupiter has 67 known moons, that the rings of Saturn are actually tiny ice moons and dust, and that the stripes on Jupiter are actually storms that are spinning at a rate of 100km per hour. I along with my class had a lot of fun at Stardome, and we are very thankful for the opportunity.

WW1 Transportation Ship

This week My group and I made a DLO about the WW1 transports ships but some people call them troop ships. The purpose of this DLO was to make sure everyone in the group had a turn to talk about the information and saying it in their own words, but the main thing this group DLO was about was collaborating together as a team to succeed. My group and I wrote about how many soldiers were in the transport boat, What boat did the soldiers use for transportation and how long does it take to get from NZ to Egypt. On the sides we just wrote down some information.

What is a leader

As a start for for inquiry we learnt about a topic called leaders. This DLO included information about what a leader is and what a leader can achieve in school and outside of school. To make it look interesting we added images for each slide. Together as a group we defined the word leader. A leader is someone who steps up, by taking risks in everything they do.

Agent of change

Today we looked at how we can become an agent of change. To become an agent of change you have to change something bad that you do most of the time, for me I can get distracted easily from other students silly behavior.  To help you set goals you should try to become an agent of change because it would help you and change your behavior too.  We can be agents of change in our own 2018 learning journey.

Rockets

Today we experimented action force and reaction force we use these forces everyday E.g when you push on the wall it reflex forces back and that force is called action force the force that you use is reaction force if the thing is  pushable it will not have much force so it will tumble, fall, or roll. (our experiment)->For our experiment we used two balls, one net ball, and one normal bouncy ball we dropped the first ball it was the small bounce ball it bounced up to our nee's. We did the next ball it bounced a bit higher . than we tried the small ball on the top of the big ball, after we dropped it the small ball went flying.
