Activity 1 Day 1: Explorers

This week we started on our first activity for week 1. For this activity we had to list 10 foods that we would choose to take on a ocean voyage. I picked food that wouldn't need to be refrigerated, this was quite hard as most of these foods are not really tasty to people.

This activity is about finding out about a couple of your friends accomplishments. One of the most interesting accomplishments I found is that Giovanni has won the lego league competition which is pretty cool. This activity was cool. I wonder what other peoples biggest accomplishments are?

Activity 1 day 3: environment & exploration

L.I to create a DLO that explains 3 questions about the activity, and answer them.
This activity is about the dirty water around 1 billion people only have that need clean water. There is a video that we can watch and 3 questions that go with it that needs to be answered. The questions are what is the goal, where do they work and what have they archived. I have answered these 3 questions with detail. Some thing I found interesting is that around 1 billion (1/7 of the world) has no access to clean water. I understood this activity because we worked on this for inquiry. This activity was kind of easy, but the questions were a little challenging.

Trip to Motat

This is a Flip book about LS2's trip at Motat. The learning we done which was about engineering we used motors with batteries to make a car and also used a motor with out batteries but we had to turn a light on with tonic energy (using movement) and then we went for a walk around the different engineering museums and we all were learning lots about cars, Old games, Pistons, Engines, telephones and what they used in the 20th century and also learnt about houses around 20th century

The Story of the Mayflower

The Mayflower sailed out of Plymouth Harbour in England on September 6, 1620. The small sailing ship carried 102 pilgrims across the Atlantic ocean for 65 days to plimouth in the New World . They had religious freedom now but life was hard, as they had to build or make everything they needed for survival from scratch. The winter made life hard and many people lost their lives, crops failed to grow and spirits were low. Some of the wampanoag tribe helped by giving advice and by bringing food. That next year the pilgrims harvest was much better. To celebrate they hunted for meat and turned many of their crops into delicious food, and invited the wampanoag tribe to join them in a feast of thanks giving.

A journey of a shoe

This week for Writing, we were giving Objects inhumane quality (Personification). As for the object, we chose a shoe. Joseph and I were paired up. This was also a challenge because we had to face back to back, no communication was allowed either. 

My mouth was wide open, only to be filled by a huge stinky socks. I liked my hair messy, until tied my owner tied it tight. I didn’t really like him because he kept getting gum, dirt and lots of things on my bottom. Every time he kicked a ball, it would hurt my face especially my nose. When I got exhausted, he just kept getting stinkier. My owner was annoying, he was so fast he always got my hair untangled. Getting back home was a relief, I could just sit down and sleep. As my owner grabs me, he throws me to the garbage, as I was falling I saw another pair of flash shoe.

Greek Mythology - Reading

This week for reading, we had to choose a Horrible Histories book. When chosen, we read the whole book, then we made a DLO sharing the information we gathered. Joseph and I chose the Groovy Greeks. Talking about the greeks had a number choice to choose from, the spartans, athens, trojan and Greek God. We chose to talk about the greek gods because it shared some interesting facts.

Transformation

Today LS2 was doing transformation for maths, Well this word has 4 types of states that are Rotation, Reflection, Enlargement and Translation. These are apart of transformation. I made DLO representing those kind of words and the actions they use.

Tech - Woodwork

Today I was sawing the pieces of my block of wood to make the base of the tractor that i'm doing for myself as a place to stash my lollies and money Like a Big piggy bank. I was using a Hand saw, Tri Square, Ruler, Mallet, Chisel and a Block of wood to hold the Saw in place while I cut my wood to start the base of my tractor..

Early Maori Enterprise

This week for inquiry, we have started our term focus about Economics and Enterprise. For today's and yesterdays challenge, we learnt about early Maori enterprise throughout New Zealand, and transferred that information over to our devices in only 5 sentences. Once we had our five sentences, our challenge was to convert the sentences to have only 10 syllables per sentence. It was quite the challenge, although I along with my peers Alex, Aung Naing, Te Pounamu and Nevaeh managed to get the job done.

Original 5 Sentences
Early Maori Enterprise started with tribes trading items all over New Zealand. Trades included a variety of foods, baskets and jewellery. Later on British travellers came to New Zealand asking for food, and other items. This turned into trades where the Maori people sold their valuable land and foods for unfair returns. This resulted in the Maori people selling too much of their land and belongings, leaving them with little to nothing.

10 Syllable Per Sentence 5 Sentences
Maori enterprise started with trading. They traded items like food and clothing. Soon British travellers came wanting food. The British also wanted to buy land. Then Maori sold too much, they lost their land.

Water filters

This week and last week for inquiry LS2 was learning about water filters and how to make them, we needed to find out what water filters need to work and how we could put the filters together.  All of the groups used plastic bottles, sand, rocks and charcoal to try and dilute dirty water. Although none of the groups completely filtered the water, some of them managed to get lighter coloured water.

Rugby Pitch Sizes Maths Challenge

 

This week for maths another challenge was to answer questions on rugby pitch sizes. Some of the other questions were: What is the perimeter of a maximum size of rugby pitch? And, what is the area of a maximum size rugby pitch? After finishing all of the other questions, my group needed to create a DLO on how we found our answer.

Rugby advertisement

This week for writing, we were making Advertisement for Rugby. We had 2 choices, to either make a video or make a poster. We first planned to make a video, but as time sped up we chose to make a poster. We also chose to use a Rugby Ball as our advertisement. We tried to use some qualities that advertisement had so that it is really relatable. 

 

This week LS2 has been learning about the rugby world cup. We needed to answer maths questions like; What is the difference in seating capacity between the largest and smallest stadiums and, what the the total combined capacity of all the Japanese rugby world cup stadiums is. The question that my group made the DLO on is if all the stadia are sold out each time then what will be the total number of spectators for all the pool matches combined.

Exploring our national current events

News editors make decisions everyday about which current event stories they will run. We explored the different types of current events that are happening in NZ, thought about why the story made the news and plotted the location on a google map. We were trying to find different types of current events.

Provocation and Opinion

 A provocation is an action or speech that triggers strong feeling about a topic. Recently a major supermarket chain announced it will no longer sell energy drinks to people under the age of sixteen My opinion is recorded in my DLO that Shows Both perspective what is your opinion and why. 

Explanation: Should NZ Ban Plastic straws

Plastic straws, Don’t you think there good because I do, Hi my name is Te pounamu and I think that we should keep the plastic straws because they are harmless they’re only harmful if your lazy and can’t be bothered to get off your back sides and chuck them in the bin or just be smart and reuse them instead of littering. Just reuse them you lazy the new straws that they are making with bamboo, metal and paper are soggy and rusty. Why are we draining money that they could use for health and medical safety because it’s just another thing that we waste time and money instead of using it in a wise way. Plastic straws are polluting the world right but that’s only because we all know we litter because we can’t be bothered.

Why would you want to ban a little piece of plastic just because lazy people can't get up and put them in the bin or even reuse them. Plastic straws, Why are they so harmful they don’t anything to harm us it’s us making it harmful because we just can’t get up and go to the bin

Tech - Food tech

Today for tech we cooked Thai fish cakes the ingredients were Fish, Coriander, Onion, Ginger, Brown sugar, Fish sauce, chilies flakes and canola oil all we had to do was mix everything together and then roll them all in balls put them in the pan and flatten the balls and wait until there fried it was special because it was our last week with miss Heka. it was cool because all the food was apart of different cultures which was all yummy in my tummy.

Should New zealand Ban plastic straws

Today we were debating on whether we ban plastic straws or we keep plastic straws. My partner was 
Te Pounamu and while we were looking at the suffering creatures we understood that there are things that are harming the marine life. Plastic straws can get stuck in turtle's noses and in bird's mouths, not only do they biodegrade into harmful microscopic pieces of plastic get stuck in animal's stomachs, plastic releases toxins that can pollute lakes and and the ground. That's why I don't think we should have plastic straws anymore, paper and bamboo ones are far better for the environment.

Persuasive speech: Give 12 yr old kids a part time job

LI: To write a speech that persuades others to think the way that you do.

For the past two weeks we made a persuasive speech that wants to make the audience change their minds when they hear your opinion my speech was about giving 12 yr old kid a part time job so it can help their families. we had to make sure we gave good eye contact to the audience, good expressions to hook your audience to your speech with persuasive language features and either tell your speech to the class or to a small group i told mine to a small group. It was easy to tell the group because it was only a group of three.


SPEECH:

Hi my name is Te Pounamu and i think that people 12 years and over should have a part time job because it can help with different kind of payments in the house and for your clothing and anything else for your family and you. People 12 can have more than 60 jobs . This means that us kids are able to earn money for our families witch can help a lot

People think 12 year old’s shouldn’t have a job because of the saying No debt No sweat but i say different i think that 12 year old kids should have a part time job. It can help with families that are not getting paid properly or don’t get paid at all because they don’t get food on there tables or clothes on their backs or support to their families and their houses

If your were the prime minister would you let families be helpless without food or clothes because if I was the Prime Minister I would let anyone above the age of 11 because it might help wait not it’s going to help the lives of kids parents or their elders because it’s amazingly helpful because it can help with your health and needs.

The reason why I want this to happen is because the families are losing their money because their suffering, damaged and hurt because they're losing their money so we can let the 12 year old kids are earning money because of the money that they earn can provide for their families with food, clothing and bedding, etc. So do you think that 12 year old kids should have a well paid part time job? Because I do.

So please let 12 year old kids have a well paid job that can sustain and stabilize their lives with a House, Food, Clothes and other needs I have lived that life before and it's hash but now i have a part time weekend job that can sustain my families life which helps my family heavily which is what makes me happy providing for my family
