This week we started on our first activity for week 1. For this activity we had to list 10 foods that we would choose to take on a ocean voyage. I picked food that wouldn't need to be refrigerated, this was quite hard as most of these foods are not really tasty to people.

Activity 1 day 3: environment & exploration
Giovanni - Winning a reward in the first New zealand lego league competition
Joseph - Being faster and faster along the years
Jay den - Being a good tennis player
L.I to interview 3 or more friends to find out their biggest accomplishment or what they are proud of.
This activity is about finding out about a couple of your friends accomplishments. One of the most interesting accomplishments I found is that Giovanni has won the lego league competition which is pretty cool. This activity was cool. I wonder what other peoples biggest accomplishments are?

Activity 1 day 3: environment & exploration
L.I to create a DLO that explains 3 questions about the activity, and answer them.
This activity is about the dirty water around 1 billion people only have that need clean water. There is a video that we can watch and 3 questions that go with it that needs to be answered. The questions are what is the goal, where do they work and what have they archived. I have answered these 3 questions with detail. Some thing I found interesting is that around 1 billion (1/7 of the world) has no access to clean water. I understood this activity because we worked on this for inquiry. This activity was kind of easy, but the questions were a little challenging.

The Story of the Mayflower
The Mayflower sailed out of Plymouth Harbour in England on September 6, 1620. The small sailing ship carried 102 pilgrims across the Atlantic ocean for 65 days to plimouth in the New World . They had religious freedom now but life was hard, as they had to build or make everything they needed for survival from scratch. The winter made life hard and many people lost their lives, crops failed to grow and spirits were low. Some of the wampanoag tribe helped by giving advice and by bringing food. That next year the pilgrims harvest was much better. To celebrate they hunted for meat and turned many of their crops into delicious food, and invited the wampanoag tribe to join them in a feast of thanks giving.

A journey of a shoe
This week for Writing, we were giving Objects inhumane quality (Personification). As for the object, we chose a shoe. Joseph and I were paired up. This was also a challenge because we had to face back to back, no communication was allowed either.
My mouth was wide open, only to be filled by a huge stinky socks. I liked my hair messy, until tied my owner tied it tight. I didn’t really like him because he kept getting gum, dirt and lots of things on my bottom. Every time he kicked a ball, it would hurt my face especially my nose. When I got exhausted, he just kept getting stinkier. My owner was annoying, he was so fast he always got my hair untangled. Getting back home was a relief, I could just sit down and sleep. As my owner grabs me, he throws me to the garbage, as I was falling I saw another pair of flash shoe.

Early Maori Enterprise
This week for inquiry, we have started our term focus about Economics and Enterprise. For today's and yesterdays challenge, we learnt about early Maori enterprise throughout New Zealand, and transferred that information over to our devices in only 5 sentences. Once we had our five sentences, our challenge was to convert the sentences to have only 10 syllables per sentence. It was quite the challenge, although I along with my peers Alex, Aung Naing, Te Pounamu and Nevaeh managed to get the job done.
Original 5 Sentences
Early Maori Enterprise started with tribes trading items all over New Zealand. Trades included a variety of foods, baskets and jewellery. Later on British travellers came to New Zealand asking for food, and other items. This turned into trades where the Maori people sold their valuable land and foods for unfair returns. This resulted in the Maori people selling too much of their land and belongings, leaving them with little to nothing.

Explanation: Should NZ Ban Plastic straws
Plastic straws, Don’t you think there good because I do, Hi my name is Te pounamu and I think that we should keep the plastic straws because they are harmless they’re only harmful if your lazy and can’t be bothered to get off your back sides and chuck them in the bin or just be smart and reuse them instead of littering. Just reuse them you lazy the new straws that they are making with bamboo, metal and paper are soggy and rusty. Why are we draining money that they could use for health and medical safety because it’s just another thing that we waste time and money instead of using it in a wise way. Plastic straws are polluting the world right but that’s only because we all know we litter because we can’t be bothered.
Why would you want to ban a little piece of plastic just because lazy people can't get up and put them in the bin or even reuse them. Plastic straws, Why are they so harmful they don’t anything to harm us it’s us making it harmful because we just can’t get up and go to the bin
Sorry I haven't finished

Should New zealand Ban plastic straws
Today we were debating on whether we ban plastic straws or we keep plastic straws. My partner was
Te Pounamu and while we were looking at the suffering creatures we understood that there are things that are harming the marine life. Plastic straws can get stuck in turtle's noses and in bird's mouths, not only do they biodegrade into harmful microscopic pieces of plastic get stuck in animal's stomachs, plastic releases toxins that can pollute lakes and and the ground. That's why I don't think we should have plastic straws anymore, paper and bamboo ones are far better for the environment.

It was easy to tell the group because it was only a group of three.
SPEECH:
Hi my name is Te Pounamu and i think that people 12 years and over should have a part time job because it can help with different kind of payments in the house and for your clothing and anything else for your family and you. People 12 can have more than 60 jobs . This means that us kids are able to earn money for our families witch can help a lot
People think 12 year old’s shouldn’t have a job because of the saying No debt No sweat but i say different i think that 12 year old kids should have a part time job. It can help with families that are not getting paid properly or don’t get paid at all because they don’t get food on there tables or clothes on their backs or support to their families and their houses
If your were the prime minister would you let families be helpless without food or clothes because if I was the Prime Minister I would let anyone above the age of 11 because it might help wait not it’s going to help the lives of kids parents or their elders because it’s amazingly helpful because it can help with your health and needs.
The reason why I want this to happen is because the families are losing their money because their suffering, damaged and hurt because they're losing their money so we can let the 12 year old kids are earning money because of the money that they earn can provide for their families with food, clothing and bedding, etc. So do you think that 12 year old kids should have a well paid part time job? Because I do.
So please let 12 year old kids have a well paid job that can sustain and stabilize their lives with a House, Food, Clothes and other needs I have lived that life before and it's hash but now i have a part time weekend job that can sustain my families life which helps my family heavily which is what makes me happy providing for my family

Tech - Food
For tech today we completed our last session for Term 2. with our teacher Mrs Heka, who takes care of food tech show us how to cook traditional food queasiness. Today we cooked Chop Suey from the Samoan culture. This rotations theme is all about cultural food. Since there wasn't an equal amount of students in food class, My group : Joseph and i. Each person had their own roles to complete. Joseph and I worked together to make sure that the food was done properly, and that the main ingredients were prepared to be added in, while i was dicing the onion, chicken, and garlic. The equipment that we used from our trolley was: medium bowl, measuring cups/spoons, knives, Yellow and green cutting board, big pot, strainer, fork, and serving spoon. The ingredients were: mixed veges, chicken, soy sauce, boiling water, oil, vermicelli, and salt. We were told to remove the pot from the heat every 2 minutes, because of the stickiness from the chicken and vermicelli. At the end of the session, as always we cleansed down our top/bottom benches, especially the stoves/cum tray. While we were cooking our chop suey, Mrs Heka was getting the rice prepared and then we dished it which looked so deliciously delicious.

We were unpacking the literary devices and language in Banjo Paterson's very famous poem Waltzing Matilda and we also were finding out different words like jumbuck witch is a sheep and other things like Waltzing, Matilda, Tucker bag, swagman and billabong those were all the words that were used in the poem Waltzing Matilda. The poem was quite a cool poem because it also tells a story about the struggle of living when you have no money in the 1880's.

Stardome trip
Yesterday night, Learning Space 2 were given the opportunity to visit Stardome where we could learn about stars, planets, and constellations. We went in a bus, and when we arrived we got to look around the building. First we entered the dome where we met our show presenter Tobias. While in the dome, we got a proper look at how constellations work, and we got to learn about the different opinions on what the constellations make up. We got to see close up what Jupiter and Saturn really look like, and we found out that sometimes the rings of Saturn seem to have disappeared, although it is only the angle of which the rings are facing us. Some facts that we learnt were that Jupiter has 67 known moons, that the rings of Saturn are actually tiny ice moons and dust, and that the stripes on Jupiter are actually storms that are spinning at a rate of 100km per hour. I along with my class had a lot of fun at Stardome, and we are very thankful for the opportunity.

Voyage Into Space
This week for Reading l was working with Milana, Matthew, Viliami and Avalon we created a Animation about the story of how Yuri Gagarin was the first human to go into space. We went to the stardome last week and saw a display about Yuri Gagarin and decided to use our digital creating skills to make a animation. We first planned it out on a paper using the s chart this showed us the order on how he went into space where he was from and what he went on. Yuri Gagarin was a Soviet Cosmonaut. People called him a hero and a town was named after him. When we were making our plan we were using our skimming and scanning skills to help us know the order of the event in the story.
My favorite part was Yuri Gagarin Quotes Which was “Looking at the earth from afar you realize it is too small for conflict and just big enough for cooperation”.

Tech - Metal Work
Today for tech i Polished my pizza cutter and then all the year 8 students spent half the day at Tamaki College after our tech, so that we could understand how a day at college works. This includes switching periods, going around the school, and learning in a different classes. During the day, we had our normal session of tech, although once we were done the year 7's left the school, leaving us with the teachers in Tamaki College and Miss Linda. First we headed to the library to eat, and also walking to a classroom. In that class, we had a teacher that gave us a math lesson. In the lesson, we were given a challenge involving co-ordination. What we needed to do was (With a gridded piece of paper) following directions that gave us co-ordinations, where we would dot the answer. When we were done, we would rule lines from dot to dot to reveal an image of an alien. The image we ended up with was an alien that we could now cut out, and design. I along with the rest of the year 8's really enjoyed the lesson that was given. Once we were done with our first period, we switched to another classroom where we were given a science lesson. In our lesson, we conducted multiple science experiments that all involved dry ice. Dry ice is solid carbon dioxide that does not melt, but rather defrosts into a gas, further returning to a solid. The first experiment we did was to fill and tie off a rubber glove with dry ice. The result turned out to inflate the glove, to the point where it would pop, although that took time. The second experiment was to receive a paper cup with a hole at the bottom, and plastic wrap on the top, and fill it with dry ice, the next step was to fill the cup slightly with water, and slightly tip the cup. Now if you flicked the plastic wrap, it would launch a ring of carbon dioxide. The final step was to put out a flame using the carbon dioxide ring. The next experiment we conducted was to fill a small plastic container with dry ice, fill it with water, put the lid on, tip it over, place it into a plastic bowl standing upright, and the container would launch into the air. The final experiment consisted of filling a bowl with a lot of dry ice, then add a significant amount of water, grab a paper towel soaked in detergent, and slowly slide the paper towel over the rim of the bowl. This would then form a bubble which would expand, and due to the pressure of the carbon dioxide, the bubble would eventually pop. I along with my peers had a lot of fun today, learning, and experiencing. We would like to thank the teachers that taught us, along with Mr Dunn (The deputy principal) for showing us around the school.

This week My group and I made a DLO about the WW1 transports ships but some people call them troop ships. The purpose of this DLO was to make sure everyone in the group had a turn to talk about the information and saying it in their own words, but the main thing this group DLO was about was collaborating together as a team to succeed. My group and I wrote about how many soldiers were in the transport boat, What boat did the soldiers use for transportation and how long does it take to get from NZ to Egypt. On the sides we just wrote down some information.

Explanation Writing
We worked in pairs to create this digital sketch note, using information we had gathered together about Explanation Writing. We used our prior knowledge and class discussion to find our information. Some of the things we need to remember when writing an explanation is to have a Title, Introduction, then 3 paragraphs of information and a conclusion. We should use formal language and write in present tense. An explanation should explain how or why things happen.

As a fresh start for this week we learnt about a new topic called leaders. This interesting DLO included information about what a leader is and what a leader can achieve in school/outside of school. To make it look interesting we added images for each slide. Together as a group we defined the word leader. A leader is someone who steps up, by taking risks in everything they do.

Sketch note - team work
Today our group collaborated to create this sketch note that defines what we think team work means. Before completing the sketch note we talked about what team work meant to us. We wrote a lot of ideas down.

Panmure Bridge School Care Values
Today was the first day back at school. The activities that we completed were based on working as a team.
Each team included a school leader.

I was the leader for my group.
The first thing that we did was to write the meaning of our school values onto a piece of paper and tell them what it looks like.

In my group was Avalon, Florence, Te Pounamu, and I. After completing this we were to create poses for each care value.
Above shows the creative DLO that we created altogether. Each slide contains a photo, tips about how we can show each value,
and what it means to us. Our school values are Confidence, Attitude, Respect, and Excellence and Innovation.
